Frequently
Asked Questions
Are
my donations tax deductible? We
are an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit charity. All donation
are tax deductible to the extent provided by law. We are registered
in the State of New Jersey as a charitable organization.
How
much of my donation is used to support programs (vs. administration
overhead)? Your
donation is applied 100% to supporting our organization and the
communities we
support. Focus America is managed by volunteers. That means that
there are no employees running Focus America receiving compensation
or salary. Donations help defray
the cost of helping these communities such as purchasing items for
mentor programs, shipping items to out-of-state communities, purchasing
items needed by our communities or the program we run in the communities,
postage, re-imbursing volunteers for any expenses, etc.
How
long has Focus America been in business?
We
were officially incorporated in October 2002. We received our
501(c)(3) approval from the IRS in May 2003.
Are
you a local or national charity? Most
of our programs are national such as People Helping People, Project
Pencils, and Project Cheer.
Do
you have any programs that pay volunteers? No, we
do not pay our volunteers. Our current administration is 100% volunteers.
This allows us to devote 100% of our limited (but needed) financial
resources to the children and families we support.
How
can I donate goods? To donate any of
the following items, please email szimmerman@focusamerica.org:
Baby diapers and
wipes
Books and
school supplies
