FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New Local Non-Profit Partners
With Community Soup Kitchen JANUARY 2003-CONVENT STATION,
NJ: Focus America A NJ Non-Profit Corporation, announced that they have partnered
with the Community Soup Kitchen in Morristown,
NJ. Focus America will provide translators to help at the Community Soup
Kitchen’s
new Resource Center which helps the working poor locate resources available
to them such as food, shelter, educational programs, and employment. “
Many of our visitors to the Soup Kitchen are Hispanic while many of our social
workers from area agencies do not speak Spanish,” says Nancy McDonald,
Assistant Director of the Community Soup Kitchen. “The Focus America
volunteers are providing a necessary link between the social workers
and our clients.” The Focus America volunteers working at the Community Soup Kitchen are students
from local colleges, including the College of Saint Elizabeth (Convent Station,
NJ). Students sign up for internships at the college in order to gain credit
for their volunteer effort. In return, Focus America allows the students to manage
the projects in order to gain real-world business experience. Focus America works specifically with destitute and underserved communities throughout
the USA, focusing on addressing basic needs (shelter, food, and clothing) then
introducing educational programs to help the communities achieve self-sufficiency.
Their ultimate goal is to help eliminate poverty in these underdeveloped communities. For more information about
